Whole Foods Case Study

Introduction / overview

Whole Foods is a world leader in natural and
organic foods, with more than 270 stores in
North America and the United Kingdom. One of Whole Foods' core values is environmental sustainability through optimized reduction and recycling of waste, and the company also recognizes its responsibility for stores to actively participate in local communities. Each project is consequently approached as a retail experiment, with the objective of constantly innovating and raising standards relative to these values.

Project locations

  • Multiple store locations in the North East
    region of the USA.
  • 75-100% of signage in new stores.
  • Notable new stores:
Tribeca, NYC / Paramus, NJ / Millburn, NJ.
  • Notable renovations:
Ridgewood, NY / Whole Body store –
    Chelsea, NYC / Bowery, NYC.

Materials / techniques

Whole foods’ commitment to environmental sustainability dictates use of eco-friendly applications and practices, including the use of new alternative green materials. Materials we commonly use in store designs include Ecoresin® co-polyester sheets, snow fences, skyblend particleboard stained with weathered teak, finished and clear pine planks, cork tile, birch plywood, wheatboard and corrugated metal.

ROI / value

We help create environments that are creative and fun, while remaining faithful to the core values of Whole Foods. With many retailers balking at investment in the current economic climate, we have worked with Whole Foods in an efficient and resourceful way, with a philosophy that “green need not be expensive.” We have explored every option to increase environmentally-focused practices by being creative and optimizing existing resources. Our approach has also enabled Whole Foods to be resourceful.
